In 2014, on a quiet street in Vila do Bispo, we opened the door of a typical 1970s–80s house. Simple, white, unpretentious — but with the right light, the right stillness, and the promise that a dream could fit inside. We called it Flor de Esteva, and it was the first accommodation we ever opened. This is where Pure began.
Esteva — the rockrose — is the flower that paints the hills of the Algarve white each spring: petals as fine as tissue paper, a dark blotch at the centre, and a resinous scent the wind carries over everything. It is delicate on the outside and stubborn within; it grows in hard ground and always comes back. We like to think the house has a little of that.
Nothing was left to chance. The house went through a complete renovation, done without hurry, wall by wall, room by room: the limewash, the wood, the light in every bedroom, the sheet you feel against your skin. Every detail was thought through for those who arrive tired from a road or a trail and simply want to feel good.
And we have never considered it finished. The years go by and Flor de Esteva remains a labour of love: a bedroom rethought here, a new comfort there. The world changes, travellers look for different things today, and we want the house to keep serving its guests with the greatest possible comfort.
Today, between the blue of the Atlantic a few minutes away and the white of the village streets, Flor de Esteva is a house of calm mornings, slow coffees, and returns at day's end with tired feet and a head full of landscape. It is small and it is ours — and while you are with us, it is yours too.
It was the first chapter. Everything Pure is today began behind this door. It will be an honour to write the next one with you.
